The Central Eagles’ Defense not enough in Thursday Night’s Slug-Fest, losing 17-10 to Number 5 Millard South
The Central Eagles lost a battle of the bats on Thursday, falling short in a 17-10 ballgame against Millard South .
Courtney Young had three extra-base hits for the Omaha Central Eagles Varsity. She doubled in the third, fifth, and sixth innings, nearly clearing the fence with two of those hits.
Jerzi Rowe got the win in relief for Millard South . Rowe pitched 3 1/3 innings and allowed four runs.
Millard South ‘s Rylie Unzicker, Emma Alfieri, Madi Geary and Damaris Cuevas combined for 12 hits and 10 RBIs.
Kailey Meyer was the game’s losing pitcher. She allowed 17 runs in seven innings, walked three and struck out three.
Millard South tacked on another six runs in the second. A error scored Roni Foote and Taeler Solano to start the scoring in the inning. That was followed up by Unzicker’s double, bringing home Emma Alfieri.
After pushing across five runs in the bottom of the third, the Eagles faced just a 10-5 deficit. An RBI single by Leah Fries to get the Eagles moving, a two-run double by Young, and a two-run double by Logon Brown sparked the Eagles rally, and Savanna Lakin to end the Eagles’ threat.
One run crossed the plate in the bottom half of the fifth, making the score 11-6. A groundout by Meyer gave the Omaha Central Eagles life. Rowe ended the inning by getting Brown to ground out.
Three runs in the bottom of the sixth helped the Omaha Central Eagles Varsity close their deficit to 12-9. An RBI single by Lila Kirschbaum, an RBI single by Bri Healy, and an RBI double by Young fueled Central’s comeback. Finally, Rowe got Meyer to fly out to end the threat.
Millard South built upon its lead with five runs in the seventh. A clutch error to open the scoring in the frame. That was followed up by Corinne Watters’s single, scoring Payton Huscroft and Peyton Glatter.
One run in the bottom of the seventh helped the Omaha Central Eagles close their deficit to 17-10. An error set off another Eagles rally, but Millard South closed the game when Hailee Fliam got Fries to strike out.
