Quick Question…are you an athlete! If you answered yes, keep reading!
My name is Stan Shaw, and I am the varsity tennis coach at Omaha Central. I am contacting you because your name was given to me as a prospective tennis player for Central High School! Regardless of your tennis background, I want to invite you to come out and play tennis this summer.
Tennis is a great sport, especially if you are competitive and play other sports. Growing up, I played a lot of basketball, baseball, and golf…and not much tennis, but I sure wish I would have.
Tennis is great for hand-eye coordination and footwork. If you are familiar with the drop step in basketball, you may transition to a great tennis player, especially if you are quick on your feet. Volleyball players make great tennis players–their footwork is great for tennis! Or, if you are a softball or baseball player and want to work on hand/eye coordination, tennis would be great for you! There’s a little difference in hitting a tennis ball, but you know that feeling you get when you hit a homerun, you get that in tennis every time you smash the ball. Yes, it’s called a smash!
Another aspect of tennis I really like is it is an individual sport. Yes, you are part of a team, but mostly it’s just you one-on-one with another player across the net. You don’t have to rely on anyone, and if you make a mistake, it’s on you, no one else.
If you are competitive and have a bit of a fire inside of you, tennis may be the perfect sport for you, especially if you are multiple sport athlete. Tennis is just an all-around great sport!
As far as equipment goes, if you don’t have a tennis racket, let me know, and I’ll find one for you. Regardless, I am looking for athletes/tennis players who have a desire to play. It’s a great life-long sport, and who knows, you may love it!
